Murky At Times, Mostly Mild Next Few Days

It's not going to be the nicest of weeks, at times, but generally mild temperatures will dominate the upcoming weather pattern.

After a pair of record highs last week in Philadelphia, getting to 84 on Tuesday and 89 on Wednesday, another mild week is ahead of us. It will not be as warm as last week (sorry, summer fans) but it will still be mild for the most part around the region through Friday as high temperatures get into the 60s most days, with a couple of chances at 70 between Tuesday and Friday. We have 70 or higher in the forecast for Thursday and Friday at this point, but Tuesday and Wednesday are days when we may also hit that mark. Three different weather features will work through the region this week―the first, a weak system on Monday night and Tuesday, pushes up the East Coast from the South and will bring rain and drizzle to the region. It wouldn't …

A Week Of Winter Ahead

Winter's making a prolonged appearance this week...and it could snow more than once before the week is out.

The incoming cold regime will bring some rather cold temperatures by Philadelphia standards to our region ― highs on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday may not break 30 degrees as we get in the grip of some pretty cold air across the eastern half of the nation.  This cold has been largely in the Great Basin so far this month ― parts of Nevada are running more than twenty degrees below normal!  Temperatures here won't be that cold, but could go down to ten degrees colder than average over the coming week. Along with the incoming cold, light snow and flurries could cross the region later on Monday with a weak clipper and also on Wednesday with a relatively weak disturbance.  Monday's system may be more substantive than Wednesday's but either …

Weather: Unsettled and Muggy, Typical For August

A week with more chances for thunderstorms is in the forecast. Combined with muggy weather, it will feel like a good ol' fashioned August week.

July 2012 will end up as one of the top three hottest months in Philadelphia's records once the month ends on Tuesday. The only question is whether it finishes second or third.  We won't know that answer with certainty until Tuesday night, but it should not end up as hot as last July, which is the hottest on record in Philly. This week won't feature excessive or gut-wrenching heat but it will feature unsettled weather thanks to a trough in the atmosphere that is going to park itself just off the East Coast.  This will provide for chances of thunderstorms on a number of days this week -- with the greatest chances for storms on Tuesday, Wednesday, and also on Saturday into Sunday.   With two disturbances tracking through during those …

This Week's Weather: Cooler Temps

Wednesday looks to be the nicest day of the week; weekend will be toasty

Last week's first official heat wave was pretty intense as temperatures reached the middle 90s for three consecutive days. While thunderstorms missed a number of locations on Friday, other places were drenched with heat busting relief that allowed us to enjoy a very nice weekend. That niceness gets reinforced with a cool front crossing our region on Monday, although a price will be paid with some showers and storms accompanying the frontal passage through the region. Tuesday and Wednesday shape up as pretty nice days, with a relatively cool Tuesday by late June standards. High temperatures are unlikely to top 80 degrees.  There could be a shower up toward Allentown and in the Poconos, thanks to cool air aloft getting agitated by June …
