Lower Moreland School Board agreed to put 650 new lockers in Murray Avenue Middle School.
Earlier this month the Lower Moreland School Board approved the purchase of 650 new lockers to be installed in Murray Avenue Middle School. The Board met for its special meeting last week and approved a payment in the amount of $130,195 for the lockers from School Essentials, Inc. The School Board felt the condition and age of the existing lockers was not suitable for its school. “The need to replace the lockers in the Murray Avenue School was included in the School District’s five year capital plan," Superintedent Marykay Feeley said. "The age and condition of the lockers is extremely poor and many fail to operate properly." On average, the total comes to about $200 per new locker. This opportunity allowed teachers the time to try something new with infusing technology into their lessons and time to learn more about new technology tools. On Digital Learning Day, Pine Road’s Technology teacher will be supporting several teachers throughout the day. The School Board will discuss more preventive measures it could take to increase safety at LM.
In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy, Lower Moreland School District has announced it will take steps to increase its own security at the High School, Murray Avenue and Pine Road. The District's Safe School Committee has discussed various ways to make our schools a safer place given what happened in Connecticut earlier this month. A plan for police officers to visit the schools several times a week to interact with teachers and students has already been put into place. Police officers will also participate in some school activities like reading and drug and alcohol awareness assemblies. This will make students feel safer while on school grounds. Matthew Crouch will be presented with a grant at the Oct. 16 Board Meeting.
ING awarded a $2,000 Unsung Heroes Grant to Murray Avenue teacher Matthew Crouch for his role in educating children on physical education. Crouch was one of 100 winners to receive the award. Crouch was recognized for his innovative use of technology to encourage students in physical education classes. He now has the chance to win an additional $5,000-$25,000 in grant money.
