Health Department Inspects Lower Moreland Schools, Manor Care, More

A handful of local business in Lower Moreland were inspected by the Montgomery County Department of Health.

The Montgomery County Department of Health conducted inspections in Lower Moreland this month. Lower Moreland Schools and Manor Care were a couple of places that had inspections. Click on the inspection report link to read the results for each establishment.

Drunk Visitors Asked to Leave Manor Care After Dancing with Patients

The following information was supplied by the Lower Moreland Police Department.

On January 16, the Lower Moreland Police Department responded to Manor Care Health Services, 3430 Huntingdon Pike, after a complaint was made about two drunk visitors who were supposed to be visiting their mother who is a patient there. The subjects were identified as Kathleen Shiepe, 54, Robert Shiepe, 57, both of Philadelphia. According to the report, both subjects had slurred speech and were asked to leave the facility by an administrator. According to the report, their mother was in the beauty salon at Manor Care and the two siblings were seen dancing with other residents in the hallway while waiting for her. They also removed their facemasks after they were told not to, which every visitor has been required to wear to help prevent flu…

Visitor Asked to Leave Manor Care for his Behavior

The following was reported by the Lower Moreland Police Department.

On Sept. 18, the Lower Moreland Police Department received a call from the manager at Manor Care to report a disturbance. She told police that Joseph Katz, 56, of Philadelphia was at the facility to visit his significant other. While visiting, Katz was reported as being aggressive with the staff and directing vulgar language towards them. Katz was apparently upset at the care his significant other was receiving at Manor Care. The patient is non-verbal and could not be interviewed by police. The manager and another employee report that Katz smells like alcohol when he visits and frequently uses profanity with the staff. Manor Care did not want to pursue charges for harassment, but they indicated to police that they no longer want Katz on …

Three Thefts and a Burglary Reported by LMPD

The following was reported by the Lower Moreland Police Department.

August 15 – Theft The Customer Service Director at Manor Care called police to report the theft of $500 from a long-term patient’s room. Officers met with the patient in question, Arthur Altemose, 64, who said that his brother gave him $500 in cash to use at vending machines or similar purposes. He stored the cash in the top drawer of his nightstand. There is has a lock on it, and the key is attached to a necklace that he normally wears. On July 23, he checked the drawer and noticed the funds were down to $120. On August 11, there was no more money left in his drawer. If someone really has it set that they are going to steal.. they probably have the necessary equipment with them to cut a chain or a lock. Granted, people do need to be more aware of things, but don't blame the police for that. That's not their fault.   more ›

Manor Care Employees Get into Fight in Patient's Room

Two employees of Manor Care got into a physical altercation in an elderly woman's room while she was still there.

The Lower Moreland Police Department was already responding to a minor incident at Manor Care Health Services, 3430 Huntingdon Pike, on July 28 when an officer was approached by an employee who wanted to report an assault. The employee told the responding officer that coworkers Shadae Marquis, 22, of Philadelphia, and Charles Sawbo, 30, of Philadelphia, were invloved in a fight in a patient's room. She heard yelling and screaming coming from the room and decided to see what was going on. As the one employee entered the room, she saw Sawbo strike Marquis with a closed fist, after which Sawbo pushed the other employee to the ground causing her to fall backwards and strike a table next to the patient’s bed. I too had my loved one at Manorcare Health Services in Huntingdon Valley and she received excellent rehabilitation services. She is home now and still speaks fondly of her stay and interaction with staff. She described the staff as caring and responsive.
