By PA Independent Staff HARRISBURG — Democrats swept all five statewide races, but Republicans were able to claim victory in congressional and state legislative races as the election dominated news in Pennsylvania this week. President Barack Obama and U.S. Sen. Bob Casey were each given a second term by Pennsylvania voters, who also supported Democratic candidates for attorney general, auditor general and treasurer. Democrats won three state Senate seats, but Republicans still hold the majority in that chamber. The GOP successfully defended their wide margin in the state House as well. Kathleen Kane, a former assistant district attorney from Lackawanna County, will be Pennsylvania’s next attorney general. The party is championing the …

The footage seems to show a voter selecting "Barack Obama" on a touchscreen system. Each time he presses the button, the screen highlights "Mitt Romney" instead.
Touchscreen voting machines have been a concern since their adoption across the country. By midday Tuesday, the footage above had been circulated on YouTube and the rumors had begun: The fix is in. The video shows a touchscreen voter from central Pennsylvania apparently trying to select "Barack Obama;" every time he does, the screen instead highlights "Mitt Romney." The user, registered on YouTube only as "centralpavote," posted an account of his experience along with the video: I asked the voters on either side of me if they had any problems and they reported they did not. I then called over a volunteer to have a look at it. She him hawed for a bit then calmly said "It's nothing to worry about, everything will be OK." and went back to …
Say 'illegal' effort took up party resources.
Montgomery County Republicans are unhappy with what they say was an "illegal effort" by Obama for America volunteers to act as poll watchers during Tuesday's elections. According to John Keleman, executive director of the Montgomery County Republican Committee, the MCRC began receiving calls from its poll watchers Tuesday morning about individuals entering at least a dozen polling places in Lower Merion, Cheltenham, and Plymouth Township and identifying themselves as attorneys. These individuals produced letters from the state Democratic party that stated they were allowed to enter polling places to act as observers, Keleman said. However, according to Keleman, only individuals with certificates issued by the Montgomery County Board of …

State house candidate Ronald Kolla expected a long day when he woke up. Out of his house before the sun came up, the Democratic candidate representing the 152nd District has been making stops at various polling locations in surrounding ownships throughout Montgomery County to greet voters. "I had a lot of trouble sleeping last night," Kolla said. "From about 5 (a.m.) I was out the door meeting some people in Hatboro." Kolla said he was impressed with the turnout he saw throughout the day in Montco and the voter count may be a bit higher than the 2008 Presidential Election in some areas. To close out the night, Kolla and other Upper Moreland Democrats will be at Cafe La Fontana in Hatboro for a viewing party. "I think it's going to be a …
Election Day brought problems at polls in several areas of eastern Pennsylvania
EASTERN PA — Several reports of voting irregularities in Eastern Pennsylvania emerged on Tuesday, the day of the presidential election. In Easton, signs appeared offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to voter fraud convictions. A constable for Easton’s 10th ward removed one such sign staked into the ground after consulting with an elections attorney on site. The Pennsylvania Commercial Action Network, the same group that posted “Replace ObamaCare” billboards around the state, made the signs. ID Requests Many Easton voters also reported poll workers asking for their IDs, even though IDs are not required for this election cycle under the law. Matthew Keeler, press secretary for the PA Department of State, said that's part of the …

The race for State Representative in the 152nd District pins newcomer Ronald Kolla against Thomas Murt. These politicians are responsible for the districts that include: UM, Lower Moreland, Bryn Athyn, Hatboro, Horsham and Upper Dublin. About Murt: About Kolla: One of Murt’s main focal points during his term has been his work with disabled veterans, and he’s stated he hopes to continue putting legislation into action to help those veterans. Another issue of Murt’s has been Marcellus Share Drilling, which Kolla has already challenged him on. Both candidates have said education will be a primary focus if elected in 2012. About two weeks ago, Gov. Ed Rendell was in Hatboro campaigning for Kolla.
If you voted in Ward 5-1 today. you may have seen Chivas.
The temperatures have dropped this week and any resident who voted in Ward 5-1 saw the effects of the cooler weather. Chivas, the local Therapy Dog who has been lending his services throughout the township over parts of the last decade, was bundled up in a blanket under a voter registration table to cover up his already warm, puffy coat of fur. Chivas' owner, Judge of Elections Judy MacDonald, was busy at work at the Upper Moreland School District Administrative Building while Chivas "entertained" the line of voters waiting to cast their vote in the 2012 Election. Serving at the polls is nothing new for Chivas. Over the last six years he's made his presence felt at the Ward 5-1 polling place. But it almost wasn't the case. Years ago one …
