In anticipation of snow hitting the Huntingdon Valley area, the Lower Moreland Public Works Department has plow trucks ready to go.
UPDATE (4:38 p.m.): The Valley Youth Center has postponed its Valentine's party and has rescheduled it for Saturday night. - - - Lower Moreland Township has not declared a snow emergency, but the Public Works Department is standing by in the event the Huntingdon Valley area still gets hit with a significant amount of snow. Lower Moreland Public Works is waiting for the snow to fall and then will be working all night to clear the roads and provide safe driving conditions. Workers could not put salt down on the roads beforehand because it has been raining since the early morning hours. "All of our equipment is ready," LM Public Works Director Stephen Woerner said. The latest forecast for Huntingdon Valley greatly increased the amount of snow predicted in this weekend's winter storm.
A winter storm could bring anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of snow to the Huntingdon Valley area Friday and Saturday. The lastest forecast from the National Weather Service predicts 1 to 3 inches of snow Friday, then another 5 to 9 inches overnight Friday into Saturday. That is a radical change from Thursday's forecast, which predicted far less snow for Montgomery and Bucks counties. Most of Friday will be damp with rain, but expect that to change to snow by early evening. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for southeast Pennsylvania, including the Huntingdon Valley area. The warning is in effect from 3 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service says those in Montgomery County, Pa. should expect some snow in the coming day with Winter Storm Nemo.
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J. has issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect from 3 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Saturday. The storm in the Montgomery County area of Pennsylvania is expected to bring between four and eight inches of snow. "Heavy snow" and a "possible trace of ice" is expected in the storm. We may even see a rare winter thunderstorm, as two weather fronts collide to form what the Weather Service has called "Winter Storm Nemo."
