Man Steals from Parked Cars at Bethayres Tavern, Police Say

One male was taken into custody after police received a call for a theft in progress.

The following information was reported by the Lower Moreland Police Department. The Lower Moreland Police Department was dispatched to Bethayres Tavern shortly after 9 p.m. on Jan. 29 for a theft in progress. One witness told police he and two other friends were leaving the Franklin Mills Mall when they were approached by a group of men. One of the men introduced himself as “Carlos” and asked where they were going and if they wanted to hang out. The witness told the males they were headed to Bethayres Tavern and then were followed to the bar. Police: Public Drunkenness and Theft Reported in Lower Moreland

The following information was supplied by the Lower Moreland Police Department.

Jan. 8 – Public Drunkenness Police responded to the Bethayres Market area after receiving a call about a suspicious male who was begging for money. Police arrived and identified Melvin Dunn, 49, of Philadelphia. Dunn was visibly intoxicated and registered a 0.17% BAC. He told police he needed money to get on the bus back to Philadelphia. While transporting Dunn to LMPD, he complained of chest pains and admitted he had been drinking alcohol and smoking crack that day. More Reports of Theft in Lower Moreland: Stolen Coconut Water

The following information was supplied by the Lower Moreland Police Department.

Jan. 2 – Theft A Huntingdon Valley resident called LMPD to report a delivery package from Amazon.com was taken from his porch. The man reported his wife saw a large box on her front porch and noticed it was a delivery package containing four small bottles of coconut water, but was waiting for him to take it inside the house. When the husband went to retrieve the package, he noticed it was gone. The man also reported a suspicious car in front of his home. There was nobody in the car, but he drove his own car behind the black, box-shaped SUV and flashed his high beams on it. Multiple Reports of Theft in Lower Moreland

The following information was supplied by the Lower Moreland Police Department.

Dec. 12 – Theft A Huntingdon Valley resident called LMPD to report someone had entered his car that was backed into his driveway facing Philmont Ave. He reported to police that his GPS ($160) was taken out of the center console and approximately $20 in change was also removed from his 2006 Jeep Wrangler. Dec. 2 – Theft A man who was visiting his friend on the 3900 block of Pine Road called LMPD after discovering his car was entered while parked outside the house. There was no damage to his 2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse, however, there was about $40 in loose change that was taken from the cup holder. Items were also removed from his wallet, which included $100, a Mobil/Exxon gas card, (2) Visa credit cards and his Vermont Drivers’ license.

Purses Stolen at Philmont Country Club Bat Mitzvah

The following was reported by the Lower Moreland Police Department.

While attending a Bat Mitzvah at the Philmont Country Club on Nov. 12, two daughters had their purses taken from the Founders Room between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Their father reported that his older daughter had a black women’s purse valued at $100. In that purse was a new Apple iPod Touch 4. His younger daughter had a silver women’s purse valued at $100, which also had an Apple iPod Touch 4 in it. The devices were valued at $300 each. Additionally, his younger daughter’s purse had a pair of her mother’s diamond stud earrings valued at $400. According to the report, the father was not going to report the incident because he believed the items were stolen and nothing could be done about it. Police Log: Counterfeit Money at Mens and Boys Store; Theft

The following was reported by the Lower Moreland Police Department.

Oct. 31 – Theft Lower Moreland Public Works contacted LMPD to report the theft of barricades that were placed around the township because of Hurricane Sandy. The barricades were plastic fold-open type with stop signs affixed to them. Each barricade costs approximately $100. They were placed at: - Huntingdon Pike and Moreland Road - County Line Road and Pine Road - County Line Road and Buck Road Nov. 1 – Fraud The owner of the Mens and Boys Store called LMPD after two subjects attempted to pay for merchandise with counterfeit money. The subjects handed the owner what she thought was 2 $100 bills and one $50 bill. The two men left the store in an older, beat-up, silver or gray Chrysler minivan. Forced Entry Burglary, Theft Reported in Lower Moreland

The following was reported by the Lower Moreland Police Department.

Oct. 15 – Burglary; Forced Entry A resident called LMPD to report her home had been broken into sometime on Oct. 15. When she arrived home, she noticed the garage door leading into the house was locked, and she usually leaves it unlocked because she usually enters through the garage entrance. When she went into her bedroom, she saw it was ransacked and some of her jewelry was spotted in the backyard. The gate leading to the rear of the property appeared to have been open by the actors. The device that keeps it closed was detached when the homeowner arrived at her house. The rear sliding door that leads into the kitchen was forced open with what appeared to be blue smudge marks on the doorframe. Some of the resident’s jewelry had been …

Forced Entry Burglary, Needle Found at Park Reported to Police

The following was reported by the Lower Moreland Police Department.

Sept. 4 – Suspicious Persons, Circumstances A resident called LMPD to report that she found a needle while walking her dog near the playground at Ridgway Park. She found a capped intravenous syringe with an orange cap over the needle in the grass. Extra patrol was requested to the park due to possible drug activity. August 30 – Burglary – Forced Entry A resident on the 400 block of Byberry Road called LMPD to report someone had broken into their house. It was discovered that the actor entered the home through an open sunroom front window. The actor removed the screen and it was found on the ground. Three Thefts and a Burglary Reported by LMPD

The following was reported by the Lower Moreland Police Department.

August 15 – Theft The Customer Service Director at Manor Care called police to report the theft of $500 from a long-term patient’s room. Officers met with the patient in question, Arthur Altemose, 64, who said that his brother gave him $500 in cash to use at vending machines or similar purposes. He stored the cash in the top drawer of his nightstand. There is has a lock on it, and the key is attached to a necklace that he normally wears. On July 23, he checked the drawer and noticed the funds were down to $120. On August 11, there was no more money left in his drawer. Series of Thefts Reported in Lower Moreland

The following was reported by the Lower Moreland Police Department.

August 6 – Theft While doing landscaping work in Albidale, a worker reported that numerous items were stolen from his truck. He said he believed the theft occurred between noon and 2:30 p.m. while he was away from the job site and his workers were working in the rear of a home. A hedge trimmer ($300) and a gas powered backpack leaf/grass blower ($550) were stolen. On August 9, a similar incident was reported when another landscaper reported that his backpack blower ($545) was stolen from the back of his work truck on the 3700 block of Blake Rd. The landscaper said he noticed an older model S-10 Blazer driving suspiciously through the neighborhood just prior to the theft being discovered.
