Giant Food Stores recently completed a five-month remodel of its Southampton location.
Giant Food Stores recently completed an extensive remodeling of its Southampton store, located in the Southampton Shopping Center. “We are proud to have reinvested in the Southampton community, and we look forward to showcasing our new amenities to our customers,” said Store Manager Fred Morgan. “Our new state-of-the-art remodel offers Southampton shoppers even more quality, selections, and savings for greater customer convenience,” Morgan said. During the overhaul, Giant installed LED lighting in many areas of the store, including overhead track lights, spotlights on specialty areas and displays, the exterior store signs and in the frozen food cases. On Dec. 3, while conducting a property check of the industrial area on the 1600 block of Republic Road, a police officer saw a male inside a large blue metal storage bin known to hold scrap pieces of metal. The officer also observed a female standing next to a gold Chevrolet Silverado 2500 truck. Both the male and the female were wearing gloves and numerous pieces of scrap metal were already placed in the bed of the truck when police arrived. About 3/4 of the bed of the truck was filled with scrap metal, according to the report. The male was identified as Mark DiDonato and the female was identified as Christine Steiner, both of Southampton. When police told them it was illegal to take the scrap metal, DiDonato stated he would put all of …

The Southampton Fire Company will drive jolly old St. Nick through town this Saturday.
Sirens will announce the arrival of Santa this weekend. Beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning, members of the Southampton Fire Company will accompany Santa through town on a fire truck. The department reminds everyone that Santa will hit every street in town and reminds everyone to refrain from chasing after the fire truck for safety reasons.

Neighbors paint a harrowing portrait of a man on a steady decline.
Several people gathered outside of their homes to watch a bizarre scene unfold on the 1300 block of Stephen Way Friday evening. One of their neighbors had holed up inside his burning home and was refusing to leave. Steve Shepper lives next-door to the house involved in the fire. He said when he arrived home from work he saw smoke billowing out of the vents on the side of the house. “There was an older couple who stopped their car in the middle of the road. A gentleman got out and was banging on the door,” he said. “My neighbor poked his head out and said ‘It’s just a little smoke,’ then he shut the door and went back inside.” Shepper said he called 9-1-1 and told the dispatcher of the situation.
