On Dec. 3, while conducting a property check of the industrial area on the 1600 block of Republic Road, a police officer saw a male inside a large blue metal storage bin known to hold scrap pieces of metal. The officer also observed a female standing next to a gold Chevrolet Silverado 2500 truck. Both the male and the female were wearing gloves and numerous pieces of scrap metal were already placed in the bed of the truck when police arrived. About 3/4 of the bed of the truck was filled with scrap metal, according to the report. The male was identified as Mark DiDonato and the female was identified as Christine Steiner, both of Southampton. On Monday, Oct. 22, a resident who lives on Evans St. in Philadelphia, which borders the Forest Hills Cemetary in Lower Moreland, called LMPD to report she heard gun shots coming from the cemetery Monday morning. She was woken up by the sound of the first gunshot, and then she heard a second gunshot seconds later. When she looked outside to see what was going on, she saw spotlights and two pick up trucks in the northeast corner of the cemetery. No other information was provided, but she requested police have extra patrol in the area because she reported a similar incident just days prior to this latest incident.

On Oct. 13, Lower Moreland Police were advised of a possible drunk driver swerving back and forth across Byberry Rd. When police arrived, they found a green Toyota Camry parked on a 45-degree angle across from Parkside Avenue. The driver, Rachel Johnson, 18, of Doylestown, said she was looking in the mirror from the passenger side of the car. She said it was taped to the side of the car and fell off sometime while she was driving. According to the report, once Johnson exited the car the cop saw her pupils were constricted and she looked so drowsy that the officer thought she was about to fall asleep standing up. On Oct. 8, a Lower Moreland police officer made a traffice stop in the area of Byberry Rd. and Philmont Ave. after a driver in a black Range Rover made a U-Turn on Byberry Rd. The driver, who identified herself as Amanda Smith, of Philadelphia, did not have any identification on her. A computer check revealed she had a suspended license because of a DUI, and another computer check revealed she had a warrant for shoplifting. She was handcuffed from the front because she was 6 months pregnant. She was taken into custody. While searching Smith, two small white chalky rock like objects were found in her jacket pocket. Smith said it was her medication which she is prescribed.

Oct. 6 – Traffic Related Incident A police officer observed a male attempted to hitchhike a ride home from a car traveling on Welsh Road. The man identified himself as Keith Zabielski, of Warminster. Keith told the officer that he gave a friend a ride home to Philadelphia, and his car broke down on his way home. He parked his car on Kent Road off of Welsh Road, but didn’t have a driver’s license to present to the cop. Zabielski admitted he was drinking earlier in the night. He requested that his car be left on Kent Road unlocked because the locking mechanism didn’t work. He will be cited for Pedestrians Soliciting Rides or Business. On Sept. 14, the Lower Moreland Police Department received a call from a resident who said his neighbor was verbally and physically harassing him after a dispute over trees on their property line on the 400 block of Lawrence Road. The resident claims that while trimming trees on his property, his neighbor, Alfred Disandro, 70, of Huntingdon Valley, began to curse at him and eventually poked him with a stick through his fence. Then, without warning, Disandro poked the handle of a rake or other similar object through the fence, striking the neighbor below the left eye and then on the lower part of his left cheek. Over the last four months, there have been a rash of thefts relating to landscaping equipment reported to the Lower Moreland Police Department. Most of the thefts are similar in nature, with items being taken out of trucks and trailers while the landscapers are doing work. This week there were three more reports like this, one of which had close to $30,000 worth of equipment stolen. August 22 – Theft A landscaper called LMPD to report a leaf blower was stolen from his truck while he and his son were doing yard work. He and his son were in the rear yards of two different properties. When they came back about four minutes later, the leaf blower was gone. On July 23, a resident on the 2200 block of Packard Ave. arrived home and heard a loud thump coming from the rear of her house around 2 p.m. She stood at the garage entrance, and through the garage window saw an unknown male running out of the rear door of her house with her jewelry box. The homeowner described the male as approximately 25-30 years-old, short dark hair, clean shaven, dark eyes, 5’8-5’10, medium build, wearing a black t-shirt and light colored shorts. The male ran towards the front of the home and ran past the owner who said, “hey what are you doing?” The male ran towards a grey Saturn sedan, placed the jewelry box in the back seat and drove away. On Friday, July 20, the Lower Moreland Police Department was called out to Oh! Bryon’s Saloonery after a fight broke out between customers. According to witnesses, Daniel Gramlich, 25, of Philadelphia, was celebrating his birthday by drinking at the bar. Gramlich was heard making improper comments to a female bartender, and threw a shot glass in her direction causing alcohol to spill on her. A local customer confronted Gramlich about his behavior and Gramlich slapped him in the face. The two began wrestling in the bar before a group of people – including an off-duty police officer from Philadelphia – escorted the two males outside. Last week the Lower Moreland Police Department was informed of another break-in where actors used forced entry to gain access inside the house. A homeowner at the 3800 block of Buck Rd. called LMPD after she discovered her laundry door was ajar after she got home from work. She then noticed damage from the forced side door in the hallway entrance. It appears the suspects pried the lock to the door to get in the house. The interior door frame and part of the dry wall was damaged. The only items known to be taken were jewelry from the master bedroom. Incidents like this have been showing up regularly in the police log. Two weeks ago, one resident reported that over $8,000 in jewelry was stolen from her master bedroom in a burglary. In …
