Hollywood Actress Inducted into Lower Moreland Hall of Fame

Katie Walder, who lives in Los Angeles and has appeared in many TV shows, was inducted into the Lower Moreland Hall of Fame.

On Friday, April 5, five more members were inducted into the Lower Moreland Hall of Fame. They were recognized for their accomplishments they achieved in their careers after graduating from LM at a banquet at the Philmont Country Club. This week we will look at video profiles of each inductee to celebrate their endeavors. 2013 Lower Moreland Hall of Fame Inductees Today we will look at Hollywood actress Katie Walder, 36, from the class of 1994. Walder was born in Huntingdon Valley in 1976. She is the youngest of five children (two brothers and two sisters). Her big break came in 2000 when she landed a role All My Children, where she starred one episode. From there, she appeared in one episode of Law & Order before obtaining a reoccurring …

Hall of Fame Inductees to be Honored at Banquet Friday

Nancy Deibert, Dr. Jennifer Cohen Kogan, Tejas Nerurka, Katie Walder, Jennie Yoo will be honored at a dinner at Philmont Country Club.

Five more members will join the illustrious Lower Moreland Hall of Fame. The newest inductees were announced a couple months ago, and the Class of 2013 will be honored at the Induction Dinner at the Philmont Country Club on Friday. A Social Time will be conducted from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and the ceremony and dinner will follow. The inductees are: In 1995, the School District decided to honor those graduates by starting its own Hall of Fame. These honorees are remembered forever on the Hall of Fame Wall in the high school auditorium lobby. They are presented with a plaque and picture that is hung with all of the other recipients. Lower Moreland Introduces New Long-Term Substitute

Joshua Kozak will fulfill the duties of a Spanish teacher for the remainder of the school year.

The Lower Moreland School Board formally introduced its newest teacher at its monthly public meeting. Joshua Kozak was recommended by the board as the long-term substitute for Spanish, Class II, Step I. He officially took over this month and will remain through the 2012-13 school year. Kozak comes from the Phoenix Academy at the Lancaster School District. He's also held language and cultural assistant positions in Spanish. Josh is going to be serving as a our long-time substitute for Spanish. We're pleased to recommend the position to you at the high school. School District Wants to Tax Residents Double the Allowance

Local residents can expect to see around a 4-percent increase to their taxes as the Lower Moreland School Board configures its budget.

Lower Moreland Superintendent Dr. Marykay Feeley recently announced that the Pennsylvania Department of Education approved exceptions for the Lower Moreland School District, which will allow LM to be above the 1.7 percent Act I index. With this new information, Lower Moreland currently stands to increase taxes by 4.05 percent while it adds costs to its budget for the 2013-14 school year. Lower Moreland was approved for exceptions for retirement contributions, but Feeley said the school board does not anticipate being approved for special education exceptions. “We are actually able to tax beyond our index,” Feeley said. “So the proposal is around 4 percent. I wouldn't say they are incompetent. But the salaries are so high that higher taxes, to them, are easily absorbable . There will be no end to this. There is little correlation of spending versus student performance. Some of the major Bucks County school districts' residents don't pay what we do. High School Senior Rewarded for 'Passion for Helping Others'

Lower Moreland senior Sara Murphy received the Student of the Month award for February.

Lower Moreland senior Sara Murphy was presented a certificate from Superintendent Dr. Marykay Feeley for being February's Student of the Month. "Sara happens to be the captain of our cheerleading squad at the high school and is also an active member in the Buddy Program," Dr. Feeley said. "She's the type of person that faces everyday with a smile, and is happy to help in any way that she can. "Most recently, Sara assisted in choreography in several of the dances in our Lip Sinc, and participated in half of the night's performances. Additionally, she has taken on the majority of the planning and preparation for both this year and last year's Ultimate Challenge. More School Bus Cameras Added in Lower Moreland

Lower Moreland School Board officials are also looking into a system where children would be required to have a card scanned when they enter and exit the bus.

Lower Moreland School District has installed 41 new camera on school buses to help protect its students. Those cameras will monitor activity inside each school bus, but school board officials are still looking into ways to add more cameras to increase security and safety. Exterior cameras with a wider view of what’s happening outside of the bus are being explored as a possible purchase. Feeley said they will cost $225 to buy and install each camera. “In essence, it would give the view that the driver has,” Superintendent Marykay Feeley said. Lower Moreland is also discussing using a school bus tracking system called “ZPass.” Using this system, each student would be required to carry a card that would need to be scanned once a student walks…

Pine Road 5th-Grader Receives President’s Volunteer Service Award

Isabella Duarte was recognized by the Lower Moreland School Board for her dedication to the community.

Fifth-grader Isbella Duarte was presented with the President’s Volunteer Service Award in front of a packed crowd at the Lower Moreland School Board meeting Monday. The certificate was presented by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program, on behalf of President Barack Obama. “Isabella is one of our Pine Road students in fifth grade and she’s receiving this certificate for qualifying for the President’s Volunteer Service Award, which recognizes those who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve the communities and the county,” Superintedent Marykay Feeley said. Lower Moreland Raises $3,000 for Jazz Ensemble in National Competition

The Lower Moreland Music Boosters hosted a Pasta Dinner where donations were made to help the team go to the Swing Jazz Fest in Savannah, Georgia.

Throughout the year the Lower Moreland Music Boosters host a variety of events in an effort to raise money for the talented music program at Lower Moreland High School. Earlier this month the boosters hosted a pasta dinner fundraiser to help with costs to send the students to Savannah, Georgia next week to compete in the national Swing Jazz Festival. With the help of the community, they were able to raise $3,000. "The Pasta Dinner was a great success thanks to the Lower Moreland community, volunteers and donors, raising over $3,000 for the LMHS Jazz Ensemble to help with the costs of traveling to Savannah" Cindy Ahern said. Sequestration Won't Affect Lower Moreland Schools

The possible sequestration will not have an immediate impact on Lower Moreland Schools or its programs, according to school district.

According to the Lower Moreland School District, it is not expecting to make any cuts this year or for the 2013-14 school year with a possible sequestration ahead. Congress has until Thursday at midnight to act or else sequestration will be in effect. According to the White House press release, hundreds of thousands of middle class jobs and services for children, seniors, people with mental illness and men and women in uniform could suffer from a series of automatic cuts  - from what’s formally being called the sequester.
