Lower Moreland Student of the Month: Jack Titus

Titus, a junior at LMHS, participates in a variety of activities at the school.

The Lower Moreland School Board presented its Student of the Month awards at its meeting Tuesday night. Junior Jack Titus earned the male honor and was rewarded for his strong work ethic and enthusiasm he brings to his classmates. "Jack was a credit to his classroom, his school and his family," Superintendent Dr. Marykay Feeley said. "His character and values shine through in every interaction in which he's involved. He's helpful without being asked, he's kind and caring to his classmates. He's eager to learn and brings enthusiasm to the class. He's respected by his peers and faculty alike."

Lower Moreland Student of the Month: Lindsey Yam

Yam, a senior at LMHS, was recognized at the School Board meeting Tuesday night.

The Lower Moreland School Board presented its Student of the Month awards at its meeting Tuesday night. Senior Lindsey Yam earned the female honor and was rewarded for her hard work and dedication inside and outside of school. "Lindsey is one of our 12th grade students," Superintendent Dr. Marykay Feeley said. "She is receiving this award for a couple of reasons. She is very mature, dedicated and quite enthusiastic as a student. Lindsay comes to school with a smile on her face and willingness to participate. She cares for her siblings at home and her grandmother who is ill. "Despite the hours that she's actually spending taking care of them," Feeley added, she earns good grades. And always has her work completed. She should be commended …

Lower Moreland 2013 Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

Nancy Deibert, Dr. Jennifer Cohen Kogan, Tejas Nerurka, Katie Walder, Jennie Yoo will be honored at a dinner on April 5 at Philmont Country Club.

Lower Moreland has always prided itself on its schooling system and the quality education children and young adults get from its teachers and the curriculum. Over the years Lower Moreland School District has had many graduates become successful in many walks of life. In 1995, the School District decided to honor those graduates by starting its own Hall of Fame. These honorees are remembered forever on the Hall of Fame Wall in the high school auditorium lobby. They are presented with a plaque and picture that is hung with all of the other recipients. Those honored in previous years include Superintendent Dr. David Archibald, professional singer and soloist Ms. Rachel Elfont Cole, U.S. Attorney for Maryland Rod Rosenstein, KYW News Reporter …

Child Confronted Near Bus Has Parents Concerned

Lower Moreland School District sent a letter out to parents explaining a situation in which a young child was approached by an older man after he was dropped off after school.

Lower Moreland School District posted an Important Parent Notification Letter last Friday to inform parents of an incident involving a student at Pine Road Elementary School.  The letter stated that a child was approached by an older man in the driveway of her home after he was dropped off by the school bus in Justa Farms. The incident took place around 12:30 p.m. after a half-day at school. The bus driver saw the child step away from the man and decided to take action. The bus driver exited the bus and confronted the male who was described between 50 to 60 years old, black and gray hair and driving a dark, possibly, black sedan. The man said he knew the child, but the child told the bus driver she did not know who the man was. The bus …

I believe that is already a policy Vlad. The problem arises with buses that are crowded and the driver having to keep track of all the kids that are dropped off at the stops. It can get hectic with loud and excited children on a bus. This driver did a great job that day, but it could have very easily gone the other way.   more ›

Cards, Craps, Food and Fun at Monte Carlo Night

The 4th Annual Monte Carlo Night will be held at the Huntingdon Valley Country Club.

Get ready for a night of good food, fun, cards and craps. The 4th Annual Monte Carlo Night will be presented by the Foundation for Lower Moreland Schools on Saturday, March 9 at the Huntingdon Valley Country Club. Residents who attend will be benefiting various programs in the school district. PHOTOS: 3rd Annual Monte Carlo Night 2012 There will be a cash bar and you must be 21-year-old to attend. Tickets cost $50; $60 at the door. Your entry will gain you $50 in casino chips, food and non-alcoholic beverages. There is also a DJ and complimentary valet parking. New Lockers Approved for Murray Ave. Middle School

Lower Moreland School Board agreed to put 650 new lockers in Murray Avenue Middle School.

Earlier this month the Lower Moreland School Board approved the purchase of 650 new lockers to be installed in Murray Avenue Middle School. The Board met for its special meeting last week and approved a payment in the amount of $130,195 for the lockers from School Essentials, Inc. The School Board felt the condition and age of the existing lockers was not suitable for its school. “The need to replace the lockers in the Murray Avenue School was included in the School District’s five year capital plan," Superintedent Marykay Feeley said. "The age and condition of the lockers is extremely poor and many fail to operate properly." On average, the total comes to about $200 per new locker. School buses made their local rounds to pick up students a few hours ago, however, traveling conditions are expected to get worse as the day moves on. Lower Moreland Schools Taking Measures to Increase Security

The School Board will discuss more preventive measures it could take to increase safety at LM.

In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy, Lower Moreland School District has announced it will take steps to increase its own security at the High School, Murray Avenue and Pine Road. The District's Safe School Committee has discussed various ways to make our schools a safer place given what happened in Connecticut earlier this month. A plan for police officers to visit the schools several times a week to interact with teachers and students has already been put into place. Police officers will also participate in some school activities like reading and drug and alcohol awareness assemblies. This will make students feel safer while on school grounds. Allow teachers who are properly trained to quietly carry a firearm. It is the most immediate response to any threat, the police are always after the fact and arrive only to clean up any mess. This is not a criticism of the police but a statement of fact.   more ›
