The Lower Moreland varsity wrestlers made team and individual history at the District I AA Tournament.
Lower Moreland athletics made team history, as well as individual history, at last weekend’s District I AA Tournament at Springfield Township High School. The tournament, which was held on Saturday, Feb. 23, saw senior Team Captain Hank Campbell become the first Lower Moreland wrestler to win two individual District Championships since 1977. Campbell also tied the school record of 106 career victories. Last Saturday the Lower Moreland varsity wrestling team put on one of the finest performances in school history. At the District 1AA Championships held at Pottstown High School, the wrestlers ran away with the team championship (1st place out of 15 teams) with 187 team points (32.5 points ahead of 2nd-place Pottstown) and also qualified 10 weight classes out of 14 (a new school record and more than any other school in District 1 AA and AAA) for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Regional Championships this weekend at Wilson Westlawn High School in Reading. The seniors were recognized in a ceremony before their final home match.
The Lower Moreland wrestling team honored their senior wrestlers Martin Jacoby, Robin Choi, Nick Brunswick, SeungGyu Rim, Mike McKenna, Rashan Chanyothi and Timmy Yu along with their parents before wrestling Upper Merion High School. Senior Timmy Yu went on to pin Upper Merion's Nick Monastero becoming the first wrestler in Lower Moreland history to win 100 matches.

The LM Lions defeated the District 12 champs, Bishop McDevitt, on Monday to give them a spot in the state tournament Thursday.
In the first round of the PIAA state duals subregional match, Lower Moreland High School, the District 1 AA Dual team champion, defeated the District 12 AA Dual team champion Bishop McDevitt 49-15 for the right to compete in the PIAA State Duals tournament this Thursday. With the win Lower Moreland will travel to Hershey to take on District 9 champion, Brookville. The Lions varsity wrestling team won the District 1 AA title this past weekend at Upper Dublin.
The Lower Moreland Lions proved they were the best of District 1 AA wrestling Saturday night, defeating Pottstown High 34-31 to win the district championship and earn the only bid to the state tournament. "It feels unbelievable," said Lower Moreland head coach Dan Park. "We knew they were very tough and that it all was going to come down to matchups and bonus points -- people not getting pinned and staying off our backs." Lower Moreland had the advantage early, winning the first three matches to take a 12-0 lead, including a pin by 120-pounder Kyle Baker. The LM varsity wrestling team had great success at the tournament by beating Solebury School, Bristol, Springfield, Plumstead Christian and Phil-Mont. Christian.
The Lower Moreland wrestling team made it a successful trip at the Bicentennial Athletic League Duals with a perfect 5-0 record. The Lions took wins over The Solebury School (78-6), Bristol (64-10), Springfield Township (54-24), Plumstead Christian (78-6) and Phil-Mont Christian (68-11). The Lions are currently 8-3 on the season and are the defending 2011 District One AA and Bicentennial Athletic League Champions.
