Lower Moreland: District 1 Champions

The Lions won the district title with a win over New Hope-Solebury in a game that came down to one final two-point conversion.

After a 0-10 season, the Lions have come back to do the unthinkable. The Lower Moreland football team won the District 1 Championship against New Hope-Solesbury with a 14-13 win in a late-game thriller that went down to the wire. With 20 seconds remaining in the game, New Hope connected a long 35-yard touchdown pass and an extra point was all that separated the two schools from a tie score and possible overtime. But New Hope chose to go for the win with a two-point conversion attempt. Before the snap it was a raucous atmosphere in the stands with LM fans chanting, “Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey, Goodbye.”  Everybody was standing in anticipation before the two-point conversion was attempted. The District title came down to one play. New Hope …

Lions Still in Running for District 1 Championship

After a loss to Morrisville, the Lions will take on New Hope tonight for a shot at the district title.

After a hard fought game against Morrisville, the Lower Moreland Lions football team finds itself in a great spot. October 27 the Lions fell to Morrisville 25-14 and it gave the shot of a B.A.L league title virtually impossible. But when one door closes, another one opens. Tonight, the Lower Moreland Lions will be taking on New Hope-Solebury High School for the District 1 Championship. It is odd that the Lions will not be able to win their league, but compete for a district championship, but it is happening. The team is ecstatic, and Defensive End/ Offensive Lineman Anthony Morales had to say this about the upcoming game “We (Lower Moreland) are extremely excited for this game because it means a lot to us, especially to our seniors that …

Lower Moreland Drops Tough One to Bristol

Bristol 14, Lions 10.

Last Saturday afternoon the Lower Moreland Lions played the Bristol Warriors in a highly anticipated game. The two teams squared off in a matchup featuring the best offense in the league (Bristol) against the league's best defense in LM. The game was a must win for both teams, and ultimately the winner would have the best shot of winning the Bicentennial League title. After a stalemate in the first quarter, Bristol wasted no time to punch in the first touchdown of the game and took the early lead with 11:22 left in the half. But Lower Moreland was quick to respond. About two minutes later, the Lion’s Joseph Leventhal ran one in from a yard out and Jordan Pocrass tacked on the extra point.   The game was tied up for a good minute until the …

Lower Moreland Shows Dominance Under the Lights Against Jenkintown

Lions 33, Jenkintown 6.

Friday night lights: a football player’s favorite time to play a game. Lower Moreland was away last Friday playing Jenkintown on its homecoming night. The stage was set. Last year the Lions lost 7-0 to the Drakes on their Homecoming Night, and now it was Lower Moreland’s turn to return the favor. The Lions came up with a 33-6 win to improve their record to 5-1 on the season. Lower Moreland was dominant on both sides of the ball and Jenkintown’s only touchdown came late in the game with the outcome already determined. Lion’s fullback Joseph Leventhal had another great game running the ball. Leventhal and Max Sandberg carried the load for the team combining for 200 yards and four touchdowns on 30 total carries. Leventhal rushed 17 times for …

Lower Moreland Pulls One Out Against Delco Christian

Lions 7, Delco Christian 6.

The Lions held on by 1 point to beat the Delaware County Christian Academy (Delco)(Knights) last Saturday at home. To say the least, great defense was played throughout the day on both sides, and in the end it all came down to one extra point. Coming into the day two key players were sidelined due to injury for Lower Moreland. Junior running back and middle linebacker Ryan Killion, and junior offensive and defensive lineman David Chung were both out and forced other players to step up. As a result of these injuries the Lions moved Max Sandberg from outside backer to inside backer, and Senior Dominic Vacchiano stepped in to fill the Right Guard position. Senior safety Oscar Zhang shifted to outside backer, and junior Peter Ebert started at …

Field Hockey Team Raises Money for Breast Cancer

For the second straight year the Lower Moreland field hockey team raised money and awareness for a great cause.

Despite its game against Christopher Dock ending in a tie, the girls on the Lower Moreland field hockey team have nothing to be disappointed about. The Lions hosted their annual "Play 4 the Cure" event on Thursday, and perhaps the result of the game was fitting where there were no losers. Lindsay Boerner, Nicole Founds and Corey Mayer each scored once against Delco Christian in a 3-3 draw after a scoreless overtime. But the team was the big winner yesterday raising over $500 which will be donated to the American Cancer Society.  The team hosted the same event last year with similar results. The team's uniforms transformed from blue and gold to pink to support cancer. That color was the theme of the day as the white lines on the field were …
