Giant Food Stores recently completed an extensive remodeling of its Southampton store, located in the Southampton Shopping Center. “We are proud to have reinvested in the Southampton community, and we look forward to showcasing our new amenities to our customers,” said Store Manager Fred Morgan. “Our new state-of-the-art remodel offers Southampton shoppers even more quality, selections, and savings for greater customer convenience,” Morgan said. The recalled Cascadian Farm organic peanut butter chip granola bars were sold at Giant.
Cascadian Farm organic peanut butter chip granola bars have been recalled due to possible salmonella contamination. The bars were sold at Giant. According to Giant, the bars have been removed from the shelves. Customers who purchased the product, which had sell by dates of Nov. 1 and Nov. 2, should bring their purchase receipt to the store for a refund. As of Wednesday at noon, Giant had received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of the granola bars, according to a news release. Genuardi's is gone ... for real
Five former Genuardi’s stores — including the Genuardi’s in Huntingdon Valley — will open as Giant stores today at 8 a.m. The store closed June 28 to undergo a makeover. In addition to “Giant” signage, the stores were given an updated refrigeration system, better lighting, new paint and a thorough cleaning. The stores also received updated produce, bakery, deli and seafood sections, according to a press release. “While all store aisles have been updated with new signage, we’ve worked hard to keep products in the same general location. GIANT Food Stores and MARTIN’S Food Markets, following a recall by Mars Petcare US, announced it removed from sale Pedigree weight management canned dog food products due to a potential choking risk. The following product, with a best before date that falls between 2/24/2014 and 3/23/2014, is included in this recall: Affected product may contain small pieces of blue plastic which entered the food during the production process. While a small number of consumers have reported finding the plastic pieces, no injury or illness associated with the affected product has been reported to date. Yesterday, Giant Food Stores, out of Carlisle, announced its schedule for converting 15 Philadelphia-area Genuardi’s stores to Giant stores. The conversion will take place in three “phases,” the first of which will begin June 28. Five stores will close for ten days during each phase. The Huntingdon Valley Genuardi’s store will close June 28 at 6 p.m. and will re-open as a Giant on July 8 at 8 a.m.; the Roslyn Genuardi’s will close July 5 at 6 p.m. and will re-open July 15 at 8 a.m. For pharmacy hours, see below. The Federal Trade Commission OK’d the proposed acquisition of 15 supermarkets by Giant Food Stores from Genuardi’s Family Markets, a subsidiary of Safeway Inc., in the greater Philadelphia area. Giant Food Stores, a Carlisle, Pa.-based company, entered into an agreement to purchase 16 Philadelphia-area Genuardi’s stores for $106 million in January. See the initial story. Spokesman: Customers gave ‘overwhelmingly negative’ feedback regarding the lean beef.
Giant Food Stores said today that it will no longer purchase and sell fresh “finely textured ground beef.” The reason? Customers hate it, and they expressed it by telling store managers, calling the Giant consumer affairs department and via Facebook. “More than 100 customers expressed concerns over finely textured ground beef; we of course listen and have a good relationship with our customers,” Giant Food Stores spokesman Christopher Brand said today. “The feedback has been overwhelmingly negative. “I will tell you that we have a very educated consumer," he continued.
