Forget the Big Party
There’s a lot of buzz about the upcoming royal wedding, but that’s the problem. Everyone talks about the big event, not the years that follow.
During my son’s third grade year there was an outbreak of divorce among his classmates’ parents. Apparently worried, he arrived home and asked, “Mom are you and Dad going to get divorced?” Although puzzled, I answered almost immediately, “Nope, we owe too much money.” Satisfied he went off to play. A little while later his dad came in from work and went upstairs to change. My son followed and a short time later, my husband entered the kitchen where I was cooking and asked if I knew what my son had just inquired. “He asked if we were going to get divorced,” he said. “What did you tell him?” He smiled and said, “I told him we owe too much money.” Needless to say, our son refused to let his father buy a lottery ticket for months.
