On an increasing basis, residents are relying on technology to receive comprehensive information about weather and other emergencies. That trend was born out during the recent effects of Hurricane Sandy as it passed through southeastern Pennsylvania. Within the five-day period October 26-30, almost 18,000 residents of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties signed up to receive emergency alerts through the public safety notification system, www.ReadyNotifyPA.org. PennDOT has announced that parts of County Line Road will have lane closures in Lower Moreland Township. The Bucks County Water & Sewer Authority will be test drilling and will cause lane closures between Centennial Rd. and Pine Rd. Morning commuters should expect some delays since work will start at 9 a.m. Lane closures are expected to end about 3 p.m. Test drilling will occur from Oct. 15 to Oct. 19.

The Counties of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia have again joined forces to collect household hazardous waste and electronics through 30+ collection sites in the five county region for 2012. In an effort to increase services, decrease costs and improve the overall event experience, Montgomery County in 2012 has opted to hold 6 separate HHW-only events and 8 separate Electronics-only events. Due to Pennsylvania’s Covered Device Recycling Act of 2010, manufacturers of TV’s, laptops, CPU’s, monitors and peripherals will now be mandated to collect and recycle what they sell of their market share to consumers in the commonwealth.
