Philly Sports Chatter

Philadelphia Phillies' Performance Pathetic

The Philadelphia Phillies usually get off to a bad start in April. And they are once again this year.

They say you can't win the season in April. But you could certainly lose it. And after the first month of the season, the Philadelphia Phillies are letting April showers drown them. They stand at 9-14 going into Friday night's game against the New York Mets. Five games under .500 and their worst start since 2006. Basically there's one word to sum up their performance so far this season: pathetic. The starting pitching has been inconsistent. The bullpen has gotten rocked. The offensive bats aren't just cold; they're pretty much icy. The defense stinks. The fundamentals are lacking. Pathetic. Case in point was Roy Halladay's performance Wednesday night. Poll: Have You Given Up on the 2012 Phillies?

The bad news is that there are still 75 games left for the Philadelphia Phillies to torture the fans with sloppy plays, bases-loaded strikeouts and an unreliable bullpen. The good news is that there are still 75 games left for a team that looks strong on paper to make a run for the playoffs. The Phillies capped off what can only be called a disappointing first half of the 2012 season in typical fashion: a 4-3 loss and three game sweep by the Atlanta Braves. They enter the All-Star break resting at the bottom of the National League East division with a 37-50 record, 14 games behind the first place Washington Nationals. With 10 games behind Cincinnati and Atlanta for the two National League wild card spots, …

Win or lose, I will stand by my team. It's hard to watch this season after the fabulous 5 seasons they gave us since 2007, but I refuse to become negative and down on them because of this disappointing season. I have been watching this team since 1968 and I still love them. Thank you Phillies for all those thrilling games! I know you'll be back!   more ›

Due to inclement weather, the Lower Moreland varsity baseball game and varisty tennis match were postponed. Both teams were scheduled to open its spring season today, but the rain will push the start date back. The baseball team was scheduled to play Cheltenham in a scrimmage at home at 3:30 p.m. Tomorrow’s scrimmage against Father Judge was moved to LMHS, but that game may be postponed as well depending on field conditions. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Father Judge, but its having field issues of its own.
