Murray Avenue Middle School Responds to Facebook Group

Officials at the middle school have taken measures to remove the group from Facebook and will use this incident to bring awareness about the dangers of the internet.

Last week it was learned that two middle school students in the Lower Moreland School District created a Facebook group with the goal of selling their personal belongings to other kids in the district. According to the school, the items sold on Murray Avenue grounds "mainly included athletic gear and electronic equipment," but there were also numerous pictures of weapons that appeared on the page that were to be sold by minors.  Superintendent Dr. Marykay Feeley, teachers and faculty are now working on a solution to create awareness and make students conscious of the dangers of social media. On Tuesday, May 22, Deborah McCoy will speak with Murray Avenue students in a presentation about online issues such as cyber bullying. She is …

There is absolutely nothing wrong here. These students simply wanted to make extra money and barter their used things. Both parties benefited and it was exclusive to a responsible group of people. Sure, a bad egg got in, but there is no need to condemn the whole student body for one idiots mistake. From personal relations to the owners of the "black market", they just wanted to make some money. …   more ›

The Black Market in Lower Moreland ... On Facebook

Two students in middle school are at the helm of a Facebook group where kids from the school district are buying and selling anything from iPods to pocket knives. And in some cases, the transactions are happening at school.

These items can be found regularly at Phre$h Stuff of Lower Moreland, the social media group created by two Murray Avenue Middle School students. It's an exclusive online marketplace filled with kids of all ages from the Lower Moreland School District that are taking part in auction style and buy-it-now transactions. And some of these transactions are being conducted at the middle school by one of the group's creators. Phre$h Stuff of Lower Moreland first started granting members access to the page on Tuesday. And within days there were hundreds of listings from its 117 members …

Lions Pick Up Win with Clutch Hit, Complete Game

Lower Moreland earned a 5-4 win over New Hope on Thursday.

The Lower Moreland Lions varsity baseball team beat New Hope in dramatic fashion on Thursday. The Lions trailed the entire ballgame until sophomore Jordan Pocrass hit a 2-run blast to left center field in the top of the 7th inning to give the Lions their first lead all game. Pitcher Mark Rushton shut the door in the final inning tossing a 1-2-3 bottom of the 7th to toss the complete game and help lead Lower Moreland to a 5-4 win. Lower Moreland Now a Solar Powered School District

All three schools at LMTSD recently had solar panels installed on the roof tops.

The solar panel project is complete at the Lower Moreland School District. All three schools - the High School, Murray Avenue and Pine Road - have installed solar photo-voltaic panels on each of its rooftops. The project was supposed to be completed by November, but because of a hard substance (which was later found to be glue) found on the high school roof, construction was pushed back. The solar panels that were installed generate a combined quantity of 575 kilowatts of electricity, which is about one-third of the High School’s electrical demand. The panels will eliminate 4,674 tons of CO2 emissions, or the equivalent of saving 1,402 acres of trees or not driving 12,800,000 vehicle miles.   You can see live energy updates from the High …
