Lower Moreland Wrestling Wins District 1AA Championship

Last Saturday the Lower Moreland varsity wrestling team put on one of the finest performances in school history. At the District 1AA Championships held at Pottstown High School, the wrestlers ran away with the team championship (1st place out of 15 teams) with 187 team points (32.5 points ahead of 2nd-place Pottstown) and also qualified 10 weight classes out of 14 (a new school record and more than any other school in District 1 AA and AAA) for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Regional Championships this weekend at Wilson Westlawn High School in Reading.

Winning District medals and qualifying for regionals were 2nd-place 106lbs Jimmy McGuigan (First LM freshman to ever qualify for regionals), 3rd place 113lbs SeungGyu Rim, 3rd place 120lbs Kyle Baker, 2nd place 132lbs Timmy Yu, Champion 138lbs Mike McKenna, Champion 160lbs Hank Campbell, Champion 170lbs Rashan Chanyothi, 3rd place 195lbs Nick Brunswick, 3rd place 220lbs Ben No, 4th place 285lbs Andrew DeRocini.

The wrestling team finished the regular season with a record of 24-6 including victories over six Suburban One League Teams (Cheltenham, Upper Dublin, Abington, William Tennent, Upper Merion, and Harry S Truman).

At tournaments throughout the season the team took the championship the ANC Lion Duals tournament, 2nd place at the William Tennent Panther Duals Tournament, a 4th place finish at the Jim Thorpe Duals Tournament, the District 1AA Dual Team Championship, qualified for the PIAA State Dual Team Championships, The Bicentennial Athletic League Team Championship, and the District 1AA Team Championship.
