Lower Moreland Township Purchases Part of School District Property

The Lower Moreland Township Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of a portion of Lower Moreland School District property to build recreational facilities.

The Lower Moreland Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution to purchase a portion of Lower Moreland School District property at its April 17 business meeting.

The portion of school district land, located along the 500 block of Red Lion Road in Huntingdon Valley, lies in the far end of the Lower Moreland High School athletic fields.

Lower Moreland board president commissioner Robert DeMartinis read aloud the resolution, in which he stated that the property would be purchased for the purpose of developing recreational facilities.

DiMartinis later explained that it would be a joint project between the township and the school district in that the township would manage the property, while students of the school district would still be able to use it. The portion of the school district property amounts to approximately 3.5 acres and was purchased for $1.

DeMartinis said that construction at the field should begin early during the week of April 22.

That would have been a great site for a new firehouse to replace the one that is falling apart. Still haven't addressed that problem.
