Man Steals from Parked Cars at Bethayres Tavern, Police Say

One male was taken into custody after police received a call for a theft in progress.

The following information was reported by the Lower Moreland Police Department.

The Lower Moreland Police Department was dispatched to Bethayres Tavern shortly after 9 p.m. on Jan. 29 for a theft in progress. One witness told police he and two other friends were leaving the Franklin Mills Mall when they were approached by a group of men. One of the men introduced himself as “Carlos” and asked where they were going and if they wanted to hang out. The witness told the males they were headed to Bethayres Tavern and then were followed to the bar.

The witness said after arriving at the bar, the men stayed no longer than 10 minutes and seemed very uncomfortable. Another witness said he saw them hanging around the parking lot, and decided to watch them through the Bathayres Tavern bathroom window, which faced the parking lot. He then saw the men carrying objects from one parked car to another. He then saw the men leave the property in a silver Honda.

Further investigation revealed the silver Honda had been involved in a hit-and-run accident the previous day at Bristol and Bath roads. LMPD contacted Bristol PD and eventually a call was received that the 2001 silver Honda had been spotted. Inside the vehicle was a $200 white jacket that was reported stolen from the Bethayres Tavern parking lot. The man was identified as Carlos Aguilar, 21, of Bristol, and he matched the same description in the surveillance cameras handed over to police by the Bethayres Tavern owner. Bristol Police took Aguilar into custody on the night of Jan. 29.
