Man Fell Asleep, Caused Head-on Crash, Police Say

A 28-year-old man was on his way to the methadone clinic when he fell asleep behind the wheel, according to Lower Moreland Police.

A North Wales man who police said admitted to falling asleep while driving to get a methadone treatment is facing several charges in connection with a two-vehicle crash that caused injuries last month.

Lower Moreland Police issued a criminal complaint recently charging Kenneth Day, 28, of the 400 block of East Prospect Avenue in North Wales, with possession of controlled substances, driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance, driving on right side of roadway, careless driving and driving without a seatbelt in connection with the June 9 crash that caused moderate injuries to another driver’s upper torso.

Following the 8:34 a.m. crash, in which police said Day’s Nissan Maxima drifted into the oncoming lane of the 2700 block of Philmont Avenue and struck a pickup truck head-on before spinning around and hitting a PECO pole, Day allegedly told police that he fell asleep while en route to Discovery House, 2755 Philmont Ave., for his daily dose of methadone.
