HV Fire Company Lends Hand in Deadly Strip Mall Fire

One man lost his life after a fire broke out a beauty supply store in Cheltenham last night.

Members of the Huntingdon Valley Fire Company were dispatched to the Melrose Shopping Center on Cheltenham Ave. at 2:30 a.m. to assist with a fire.

The blaze spread to two stores in the shopping center. Firefighters were able to remove one man who was inside a beauty supply store, however, the man lost his life shortly after being transported to a nearby hospital, according to the Cheltenham Fire Department.

It took hours for local crews to extinguish the fire. The HV Fire Company said it "had a long night with sub-freezing temperatures, ice, and water flow issues."

The cause of the fire is reportedly under investigation.
