Giant Pulls Gelato From Shelves

Torenti Gelato recalled due to allergen concerns, grocery chain says

Written by Dino Ciliberti

Giant is pulling a brand of gelato from its stores to concerns about an allergen.

The grocery chain said Thursday it was taking part in a recall issued by Torenti Gelato and Sorbetto.

Giant has locations in Forks and Palmer townships.

The recall applies to Torenti's German Chocolate Cake Gelato, which may contain "undeclared" almonds, which are an allergen.

The company said in a news release that while it hadn't heard of anyone getting sick from eating the gelato, "people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product."
