Johnny Appleseed Festival

The Alnwich Grove Historical Society will host the annual Johnny Appleseed Festival on Saturday, September 29, 2012 1-4PM on the grounds of Orchard Artworks, 520 Tomllinson Road, Bryn Athyn, Pa 19009.  This free family event will feature games, crafts, an apple cider press, an apple pie contest, and an apple tree planting in memory of Sylvia Glassman, an Orchards Artworks artist.  Ray Silverman will also be present to sign copies of his newly released book about Johnny Appleseed. Johnny Appleseed will spend the afternoon telling stories and leading groups on tours of the orchards.  The artists of Orchard Artworks will present a group show "Autumn in the Orchard" inside the gallery. On the lawn will be artists demonstrations of spinning wool, knitting, basket weaving, clay making and wood working. This year the Bryn Athyn Thrift Shop will also participate by being decked out for the occasion and exhibiting a restored antique corn shuller. The restorer will be present to demonstrate its use. The apple pie contest will be judged by the chief-of-police, the mayor, and Johnny Appleseed.  Baked goodies will be available for sale.  Families are invited to come early and to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grassy areas while they participate in this lively, fun filled afternoon
