The Tween Show: They Must be Cheap to Make

Is it me or are the Disney tween shows getting crazy ridiculous?  Where are all the parents?  One of the great cartoons of our time, Charlie Brown never had parents (just a crazy whiny sound that was unintelligible), but the children were respectful in their replies even Lucy, who was the wise cracking character. The parents were never betrayed as idiots or baboons. Though Lucy was a little bully in her circle, she was the only character that was the bully.  Each character represented a different trait. Disney's new version of the tween show is filled with all of the characters spouting wise cracks and a too cool for school attitude.
Have  you seen Shake it Up? The one girl looks anorexic and the other girl isn't wearing any clothes.  The father from Good Luck, Charlie is a moron.   I guess it would be crazy to have a parent with a backbone.  The only adult in the show that holds the children responsible for anything they do is the neighbor, who is the nemesis to the children.  In Suite Life of Zack and Cody, the boys spent the entire series being disobedient, disrespectful, and destructive.  There was a goof ball mother with no mention of the Father until he shows up one day from a world rock tour.  He is portrayed as even more inept at being a parent and very rebellious to rules and parenting.   In Kickin' It, the children live at the dojo it seems.   No parent pick up or drop off.  I guess those parents lucked out and don't have run around being a shuttle for their children.  In "Pair of Kings" the children are rulers of their own island.  In Lab Rats, the Father is suppose to be a scientist, but he is the dumbest scientists ever invented.   His ineptitude goes beyond bad parenting, his inability to keep control has put the children and experiments (the robot children) repeatedly in jeopardy. The first law of Bloom's taxonomy, which every teacher out there would know is safety.  The non structured environment that many of these shows portray leads to a lack of security.
I do have to say, I do enjoy Phineas and Ferb.  The show is creative and the parents are portrayed as having sense.  The children spend their time using their imagination and even throwing in some higher order thinking skills.  Like the show Seinfeld, I have referred to Phineas and Ferb outside of watching the show.
Who knows maybe our children will get older look, see an episode and wonder, why did I like that show so much?  That is what happened to me when I watched Speed Racer.  MTV re-aired the series.  I thought I would enjoy it, but only sat there amazed that I ever watched the show.  Oh well, I guess we all grow up.
