Write and Illustrate Your Own Book Winners Announced

The Huntingdon Valley Library presented the winners of the contest on Monday night. First, second and third-place winners were recognized for students in grades K-6.

 

Last night the winners of the were announced at the .

The judges sorted through more than 100 submissions and students in grades K-6 were rewarded for their writing skills, creativity and imagination in a contest that dates back more than 20 years.

It was Nancy Hensler's idea, the now-retired Huntingdon Valley Librarian who worked there for 20 years, and it's been running since 1990.

The students have the opportunity for their books to be professionally bound and added to the vast collection that sits in the HV Library. People in their 20's and early 30's who won the contest can still go back and find their book sitting in the children's section.

"I am impressed with the effort was that expended. We live in an area where there are extremely bright kids and it's reflected in these books," said Alice Turman, youth services coordinator at the HV Library.
