Wawa Construction to Continue in November
The building of the Wawa gas station at Red Lion Rd. and Philmont Ave. is expected to resume next month.
If you drove by the intersection of Red Lion Road and Philmont Avenue sometime during the summer, you saw construction workers diligently working to get the land ready for the new Wawa gas station that was approved about a year ago.
Recently, however, motorists who travel on that road on a daily basis may have noticed a lack of workers on the site. The development of the site is currently in a holding pattern of sorts. The developer was responsible for clearing out the land, taking care of the underground storm water issues, and creating a right-hand turn lane on Red Lion Road. Now it is up to Wawa to build the actual building and install the fueling stations.
According to the township, Wawa is supposed to start this construction in November.
“(The site) has been this way for a little while now but the construction schedule should begin in November,” said Chris Hoffman, assistant manager of the township.
The developer is also responsible for installing a pedestrian bridge, which will cross the creek on the Self Storage side of Philmont Ave. The building of that structure will be completed in the next couple of weeks as well, according to the township.

The Phlimont Ave corridor is in a desperate need of renovation. This is a good step to revitalize this area. As long as the traffics issues are addressed by the township, it is a step in the right direction. Now if the township would only utilize some of the acres left vacant for a new park and recreation area that would be awesome. We need new fields for our kids to play sports, but that doesn't make any money!!

I welcome the new Wawa and am glad for the story.
I see where the store will be sitting but I can't figure out where the pumps will be? It looks sorta small for pumps? I looked at other Wawas with pumps and they are sitting in a big area?
If anybody knows please let me know, no issue I'm just curious.

there was no reason to have a wawa on that corner.... the traffic is so bad there without the wawa it is going to be ridiculous with it there !!! it's all about greed in l.m. township !!!

Talk about greed? try going to the Bethayres market during rush hour? Then you see all their very over priced items? So you buy them anyway because it's close? And you don't want to drive far,, now thats local greed at its best.
I can't wait for Wawa to open so my family can get fair market prices not local store GREED..

Kerri-I respect your opinion but let's look at the potential positives.
1. Any wawa (especially one equipped with gas pumps) brings tremendous revenue in the form of taxes, which can, if prudently used, in turn improve LM's infrastructure elsewhere.
2. While there is considerable traffic at this location, the right-turn lane will undoubtedly mitigate that to a degree. Moreover, a gas station here will likely lessen traffic at the nightmarish Pine-Tomlinson-Philmont interaection's Sunoco a mile up the road.

So where will the gasoline pumps be on the new Wawa site? I think this is a fair question.
As far as the traffic all they have to do is widen that 1950s bridge at the bottom of the Red Lion rd. hill? That will ease the traffic coming down Red Lion rd. hill.
Then put in Green arrow turning lights on Philmont and Red Lion?
Then extra traffic will be sitting in Wawa parking lot getting coffee ect.? Case closed.
GOTTA HAVA WAWA.... It works for this area...

You're comment re the Bethayres Market was unfair. And misinformed. They ARE competitive in most of their products. Compare their ads with Giant, where we visit often. And their meats are very reasonable.

Good points, Marty. This will also be the first wawa in LM (philmont and byberry is in NE phi). It will be nice to have a wawa with more of a neighborhood feel and it's proximity to the LMPD bodes well for safety.

RE. Bethayres market, yes they do have sales on certain things in the store but as a whole they are over priced. See what mustard or soup cost there, then go to any store and its cheaper.
One last thing is you etter check experation dates on anything you buy there. Thats a fact.

With all the talk of expanding sidewalks, why can't sidewalks be put on both sides of the street on Welsh Road from Huntingdon Pike up to Valley Road. If you live anywhere on the other side of Valley, it is impossible to walk to get to any of the stores in the Bethayers Plaza.
